A little bit about the design centre so far…
The Collins Constructions Design Centre is under construction and we are excited to see the space progress. We will be utilising unique design concepts, local materials and suppliers.
The existing building was a renovator’s delight so we decided to strip it back to the bones to ensure that we could get the most out of the space. We were then able to increase the ceiling height for a larger space. At this stage we are looking at an empty shell, with exterior signage and air conditioners being installed before we begin to work on the stunning interior.
The driving vision for our design centre is to have a dedicated space that we can bring our clients to meet with our in-house architects and builders. The aim is to visualise both the aesthetically pleasing side, and also understand the practical side of the build, bringing these two considerations together for the best outcome for your concept to become a reality.
Our goal is to make sure that our clients are part of the holistic design process where we nail down the three key aspects of great design which is having adequate ventilation, natural light, and the acoustics in the space and our design centre is the best place to do that.
Along with very specific environmental requirements, the way we think, structure and organise in the Far North of Australia is different from every other region. The Design Centre is an element of Collins Constructions, founded with the vision of collaborative commercial design and focused on how best to blend the functionality that suits with the Far North Australian Workstyle, with the aesthetics and longevity requirements that best meet the environment.
What can you expect when you walk into the design centre?
We aim for the design centre to be a comfortable and welcoming modern space, the first of its kind in Cairns. We believe that the commercial construction industry in Cairns can be levelled up and that’s what we are doing!

We always design to our clients needs and budget, taking a practical cost effective approach, utilising local knowledge, suppliers and collaboration with other construction support services to bring the concept to reality.
We also use advanced designs and construction techniques that reduce heating, cooling, ventilation and lighting energy consumption. We focus on enhancing and upgrading buildings by replacing equipment with energy-saving devices.
Why design is important and unique to Far North Queensland…
Whilst Aboriginal people have a special connection to the land it is clear that other people also connect in their own way. Taking the time in design provides an opportunity for stakeholders to play a role. Design allows for culture, history, habitat and geography as well as the specific needs of people in the 21st century.
Northern Australia represents much that is unique and is also mature enough to
identify its own design opportunities and to break away from southern Australian design dictates. The design centre takes a customer focused style to meet this through connection to indigenous design concepts, professionals and First Nation business networks.
